Trails – Moose Lake State Park
Between sunrise and sunset, you can hit the trails. Rambling over 1194 acres, the trails connect through wetlands, marshes, and forests. The park maintains trail systems ideal for hiking, jogging, and snowshoeing. And, yes, skiers also hit these trails when the time is right. Dogs are welcome but only on their leashes.
The Moose and Soo Line Trails. Every trail passes through interesting flora and fauna. And, so, the wildlife varies depending on their food and sun preferences. You may say those bald eagles on this trail along with the moose.
Wildlife Pond Trail. This flat trail extends 4.3 miles through wildflower and moose territory. Brilliant aspen colors wow during the fall. Herons, egrets, and osprey frequent the area as well.
West Echo Lake Trail. A multiuse trail, this 4.0-mile trail accommodates horseback riders and hikers. It goes through shaded forests and along Echo Lake. Listen to the melodious bird sounds. It’s an easy trail with resting benches with a steeper climb at the end.
Fishing
Moose Lake State Park rents fishing poles in case you need one. And a wheelchair-accessible fishing pier is a wonderful place to fish. Largemouth bass, walleyes, sunfish, and bobber fish are common. Anglers have pulled in Northern Pike and Muskie as well.
Canoeing and Boating
If you can get out on the water in a canoe or a motorized boat, you will notice the nesting loons better. You’ll also be able to dive into the clear lake water when the day gets too hot. An available boat ramp accommodates small to medium-sized water vessels. And Moose Lake State Park rents boats and fishing pole, as we mentioned.
Picnic Area
Between the middle of May and the end of September, a day-use picnic area is open to public use. Picnic tables and an ADA-accessible toilet help. But visitors need to bring drinking water and pack out their trash.
Agate Geological Interpretive Center
We find more resources at the welcoming Agate and Geological Interpretive Center at Moose Lake State Park. The Center teaches park history since 1971 and features a gift shop. Agate is the official Minnesota state gem and the Agate Center features a colorful array of agates and worthwhile stone collections. In addition, the center offers rentals during summer, fall, and winter. There are cabins, campsites, and boats, even fishing poles.
