Boasting a 108-pound gem, Moose Lake claims itself to be the Agate Capital of the World. Visitors to the museum in Moose Lake State Park will see this huge agate as well as fascinating gem collections.
Since the early 1900s, newspapers have captured the essence of the lifestyle in Moose Lake. Look up copies of the Moose Lake Gazette’s, the Star-Gazette, and now the Arrowhead leader. Although now completely rebuilt, Moose Lake was devastated by the huge Cloquet fire tore over 100 years ago. That story is told at the Museum, the Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Sault Ste. Marie Depot.

Take Interstate 35, State Highways 27 and 73, or County roads 10 and 61 to arrive in the city of Moose Lake. Moose Lake is on the southern edge of Carlton County, about 43 miles southwest of Duluth, Minnesota. Continuing south through Pine County to Minneapolis-St. Paul, the drive is 112 miles.
Alternatively, fly into the Moose Lake Carlton County Airport which is 3 miles south of the community. This airport features a 3200-foot paved and lighted runway.
